Reading is Relaxing
I like to read because it helps me relax. Reading to me is similar to watching T.V. I am able to zone out, and not think about anything besides what is happening between the pages. It allows me to take my mind off work, and off of anything stressful in my life. Reading before bed is one of my favorite things to do.
As a middle school English teacher, I am pretty sure that I read more than people my age. I know for a fact that I would not read this much if I was not a teacher! Either way, I am glad that I have the opportunity to read a bit at work! 🙂
I am a huge fan of Young Adult or YA books. I have read a few pretty amazing series this year (finding a good series is seriously the best thing in the world) and I would recommend checking them out! If you are into dystopian novels, you need to read The Red Queen series and The Selection Series!
Even though I love YA books, sometimes, I would really like to read a book without a dragon or magic!!!
Book of the Month Club
Randomly, a few months ago I came across an online “book club.” Instead of getting together with a group of friends to discuss a book, you can create your own online club!
For $15 dollars a month, you receive a hardback book to read. There is a message forum if you would like to discuss your book with other people who have read the book.
I haven’t used the message forum feature, but I have loved receiving a Book Box the past few months!
When you sign up, you also get an “extra book credit” that you can use towards adding an additional book to your Book Box for free. Without this credit, each additional books is $9.99.
With your book, you also receive a cute bookmark. 🙂
Books I’ve Selected
In January, I chose a mystery novel, Two Girls Down. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. Not being a fan of mystery, I am also confused why I chose to select this book haha. I think I liked it so much because it made me think the entire time. In the first few pages of the book, two little girls are kidnapped. During the entire novel, I was trying to figure out who the kidnapper was. Each time I thought I was correct, I would find out that I was wrong.
For February, I received two books in the mail because I used my “extra book credit.” I selected a YA novel (can’t help myself!) called And We’re Off, as well as The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah.
Kristen Hannah is one of my favorite authors! I think I own all of her books. As soon as I saw her name, I knew that I had to snatch this book up! If I didn’t get it from Book of the Month, I knew that I would end up buying it at Barns and Noble for $25.
The past few months I have chosen The Oracle Year by Charles Soule (omg, go get it now, so good!) and Still Me by Jojo Moyes.
I hope that you give Book of the Month a try! If you don’t like it, you can cancel it at any time! 🙂
