I think all teachers deserve a raise in January. Even in the South, it has been freezing, which makes going to work so much harder. It also made me not want to walk Allie because that meant more time outside in the freezing cold. However, somehow I did manage to go on three long walks with her.
Allie is very…unique haha. Always sniffing the air, flowers, people. Walks take a very long time with her! 🙂
I know this isn’t a “walk” picture, but seriously, how cute is she?! I also like this picture because it documents that I have made my bed…something that only happens when I do the laundry!
Besides a hectic work week (I mean, what work weeks aren’t hectic?), my week was jam-packed with a lot of food and, of course, exercise! Working out is my absolute favorite thing to do to unwind, and honestly, just to do in general. If I am in a funk, working out also automatically makes me in a better mood. On Wednesday I wasn’t in the best mood, and I didn’t work out. Looking back now, I know that if I would have, it would have cheered me up!
I joined Class Pass (a post will be up soon about this!) and so I had a lot of fun this week trying new classes. I think I need to change my three class option to the five class option…or maybe even to the ten pass.
For my first “pass,” I went to a new cycling studio and it was amazing! 🙂 I’ve been to SoulCycle and CycleBar hundreds of times (not even kidding…this is where all my money goes), and a few other studios. And, let me tell you, this class…was the best class that I had been to in a while. I went on Friday after work, so I was tired, and I assumed the instructor would be exhausted as well. He wasn’t. He was upbeat, energetic, and even went around introducing himself to everyone. I will for sure be back. I even left a five-star review on Yelp, which I have never done. I think it may have actually been my first review.
In addition to a fun spinning class, I also tried a pilates class this week- my first one ever. I can’t believe I’ve gone all my life without taking one. Because it was my first time, I was a bit nervous going in, but I had nothing to worry about. They gave me a pair of sticky socks to wear, and quickly told me about the Reformer so that I knew a little bit before we began.
45 minutes left me sore. Very very very sore. I’m pretty sure that I used muscles that I never knew I had. I thought I was in shape, but apparently not in pilates-shape! I wouldn’t say it was my favorite, but I did really like it. After the class, I spoke with the instructor and told her that I could already feel my muscles aching. She laughed and told me it was normal, and that soon, I wouldn’t feel that way. She was in incredible shape, and she told me that all she does for fitness is yoga and pilates. That just goes to show that being “fit” isn’t just one thing. Fitness isn’t just being able to run a few miles. It’s about finding what you like, and what works for you! Even though I didn’t leave feeling on Cloud 9 like I do coming from a spinning class, I still felt good. I’m going to make sure to take another class next month!
Afterwards, I picked up a smoothie at a nearby shop for lunch. I had already driven twenty-five minutes to class, and this cute juice shop was right next door. I’ve been doing pretty good on my budget, and still had money left over for the week, so I got a smoothie! I loved that they had almond milk for all of their smoothie’s bases. Mine had a banana, peanut butter, almond milk, and I think honey. Basically what I make myself at home! Why is it that I always eat the same foods at restaurants that I also make myself at home?!
Lots and Lots of Food
This week I ate out to eat a few different times. Usually, I only eat out once, but for some reason, this week that was all I was doing. Of course, I had to eat the amazing sweet potato fries at Bellagreen. SO good. When I was ordering them, I joked with the cashier that I was only ordering the veggie burger to get the fries. Sad thing is, I wasn’t joking…haha. I ended up making my own sweet potatoes later in the week at home because that is how much I love them. I will post the recipe soon.
After my spinning class this week, I treated myself to Zoe’s Kitchen. I knew that I needed food ASAP, and Zoe’s is such a great healthy option. It is Mediterranean food, and so so so good. I ordered lots and lots of carbs! Potatoes AND rice to go along with my veggie kabobs.
This weekend, I went to a restaurant called Rice Box, which is located in The Heights. I don’t really go out and eat Chinese food. If I get takeout, I get Thai food. Chinese food, or American Chinese food, doesn’t seem to sit well with me. It’s either too greasy or salty or something, which makes me feel sick afterward. I can’t remember the last time I actually even had Chinese food. However, this place, Rice Box, oh my gosh. So good and no gross feeling after.
Because I don’t eat eggs or dairy, eating out can be tricky. I told the cashier, and he told me the options that I could get from the menu. So kind! The food for sure hit the spot, and I love finding a new, casual place for lunch or dinner. The best part about Rice Box is that the portion sizes are HUGE! I was able to eat it for lunch and dinner.
I love it when the fortune cookie actually gives you good advice! It’s either spot-on advice or random lucky numbers.
I’m trying to save money for a new car in August, so I have been shopping less. It’s been extremely hard, but seeing my “car fund” grow keeps me spending less! My goal is to put down at least half of a new car so that my monthly payments only last about a year to pay my car off. Debt scares me, and I would rather not have any.
Even though I have been on a budget, that doesn’t mean I can’t look around! Somehow I always find myself in Anthropologie, and at the candle section. It actually doesn’t even matter what store I am in, I ALWAYS find the candles. I could walk around Anthropologie for hours. Everything there is so cute.
Anthro’s entire wall of mugs… oh my gosh so cute. I exhibited SO much restraint not buying any. This budget thing is rough.
Very surprised that I don’t own this t-shirt yet.
I’ve been on the hunt for unique pieces for my home. In a few months, I am moving and will have a lot more space! I am hoping to find/create a farmhouse style kitchen table. To go match the table, I also want French-style chairs. Furniture is ridiculously expensive, and I am hoping to stumble on it when I am at antique stores. Some people have a problem buying used things, however, I’m the opposite. As long as it is in good condition, I think used furniture can be even better than new furniture. It has character and a story behind it.
I didn’t find anything this weekend (in my price range), but I came home with a lot more ideas! I think that it is a good thing I have a few months to look for all the furniture. This way, I can take my time finding it, and not settle for something I only half-like.
Of course, this week, I also drank lots and lots of coffee. My new go-to drink is a Flat White with either almond or soy milk. I usually get only about one-two coffees from coffee shops during the week. I make the majority of my coffee at home, or at work.
At home, I started making Pour Over Coffee, and even made a post about it if want to check it out! 🙂
In addition to all the food and working out, the past few months, I’ve also been reading a book called Perfectly Yourself by Matthew Kelly. It’s one of those books that you can open to any page and start reading. You could read it cover to cover, however, I like to use the index at the front to look up specific topics that I want to read about.
The chapter talked about how we are so distracted in our lives from what is really important. It talks about how living more simply makes our lives easier. Obviously, this page is not only talking about material things, but also anything else in our lives that is a distraction! 🙂
